Long ago, back when Minos was king of the land that is now called Slyvant, there was a beast. But not just any beast, no. He was half bull half human.
It was said that Minos taunted Zeus, saying he was better than the king of the gods, so Zeus turned himself into a bull and lured Mino's wife. The queen became pregnant with the bull-human hybrid, thus cursing the family line of Minos.
Since the death of the original Minotaur, virgin women would be "given" to Zeus in hopes of him betowing a hybrid or cursed child. If the daughter could produce this child, her family's status would skyrocket and they would become higher than before. But, if they produced a legendary Minotaur, they were taken by the king to be in his top court. Very few produced this Bull-Cursed person, and many were other animals. Leopards, Lions, Canines and horses were common.
When the child was born, it was then taken from it's mother to be raised by the servants of the king in the sacred maze. There, they would grow and live, and they would survive on the criminals that were doomed to die.
The maze had invisable boundries, only known by each of its cursed inhabitants. The strongest and most dominant were closer to the doors, where they could get the most food and the healthy meat. The weaker and less aggressive were in the back, where they were often fed old and putrid meat by the slaves, just to keep them alive. Then, once a year, on Minos Day, or Day of the Cursed, they were taken out of the maze and paraded through the streets to show the Honor that the families had earned.
Of course, the cursed have hope. There are myths, stories, of a cure to their curse. A way to break out of their odd hybrid state. Yet, all they can do is wait, and hope for a hero....
Kobe was one of the cursed. Though, he was not a special cursed one, no. His head was the shape of a thick, cloudy colored leopard with deep brown-silver eyes and a tanish nose. A mist leopard, or a Clouded leopard. Down the middle of his back, over his spine, fur ran, soft and spotted, all the way to a tail and legs that started out human, then ended with animalistic feet. His arms and chest were free of the fur, and had a human shape. Yes, other than his cloudy color, he was a fairly standard Taur or Cursed.
Kobe really wasn't that impressive of a Taur. He had been raised by an elder slave, one that raised him telling him stories of hope and dreams. He did not train daily in fighting or in killing. She taught him about the world, and about the gifts of the gods. A lot of the rest of the clan called him a dreamer, which was probably why he was where he was... Located almost in the very back of the maze. Not that he minded. If he got... Fresh... meat.... They were already killed or almost dead from encounters with the others, and he mearly eased their suffering. He never attacked them, unless they attacked first. He did not fight for a place in the ranks, even when they all would meet up in their sectional sleeping areas at night, he never pushed the smaller, weaker Taurs around, he just was there. Of course, most of the ones lower than him were still shy of him, due to his size. Despite living in the back, he stood a good 6'3'' tall with thick muscles and a bold personality. The lower ones seemed to think that he would push his weight around quite well if they gave him a chance, and they just did not want to deal with that.
Not that he could even see any other Taurs at the moment. No, it was about time for the biggest and most sacred "feeding" of the year. The worst criminals, along with a few minor put-to-death criminals, would be thrown into the maze before long with their tributes to the gods. Before long, screams and the scent of blood would fill the maze.
She had been there, watching from chains, as the Taurs were paraded through the center of town. They, the criminals, had all been chained in the center of town to see each and everyone of the beasts that would eat their hearts out of their chests. She had watched as the one Minotaur led the other Taurs, in order of their own ranks, in chains of their own, through the town. Occasionally, one would lash out at another taur or a bystander, only to get a lash from one of the slaves near by. She couldn't help but snort. That was how they treated their "sacred" Taurs?
Of course, her snort was heard by a guard and she was kicked in the back as he snapped at her.
She still had the bruise, but that was the last thing on her mind as she stood there, in chains, with the slaves decorating her with tributes and gifts to the Taurs and Gods. Her coppery brown hair was pulled up with beads of silver and gold, while she wore a white dress that had a golden rope belt. Jewels decorated her arms, neck and ears. She wore a strong perfume that made her eyes almost burn, and shoes that were almost too big for her dainty feet.
"Too bad, lass. You don't look like a criminal," The young male slave said as he fixed her necklace.
"Guess that's why I look the way I do. No one suspects the young dam," She growled as her hazel eyes glared at the young man. The man frowned slightly and really listened to how she spoke.
"You are not from Sylvant, are you?" He asked as he looked her over and started to put the flowers in her hair.
"Nope. From the northern mountains." She grumbled.
"Isn't that dwarf territory?"
"Oh, aye. Ya' see. My father was a dwarf, mother was a human. I get the good of both sides," She was quite sarcastic in her tone, and the slave had to think about her words for a moment to figure out if she was just being smart or telling the truth.
"So, why were you here anyways?"
"When your dad is the great Theif Nori SwiftFox, you have a reputation to live up to," Her eyes narrowed as she staired the slave down. He shied away slightly. Her father, before he met her mother, had terrorized Slyvant, and his legend was still strong in their streets. Of course, stating this was enought to get the slave to hurry up what he was doing and move off. She snickered to herself, trying to cover up the slight shake in her chest that was starting to rise up. She was a theif! She was not afraid of anything! She was a Slyfox! Brave. Bold and never was caught. That meant she could find a way to escape this. There had to be a way....
