He, was king. He had always been a King. From the moment he was born, he was a king. Sure, he had been a King in training, but he was a king none the less. He helped his father, who was also a king, often as he grew, but when the two nations went into war, his father and mother never returned. He was pushed, without hesitation, into the position of full time, no longer in training, king. Not long after his taking of the throne, he gained a wife, who, at the time, he loved dearly.
All of this happened years ago. The whole time, his Bird, Alo, was at his side taking the punches with him. The Ice Sire was large, even by Sire standards, with feathers that were blue as the frozen sky, and dappled with silvery white and light purple specks. His crest was smooth and flowing with jagged edges, as was his tail. His wings were large and strong, and he was the living symbol of the northern clans pride and hope.
The King pair had been to war more than once, protecting their clan from their southern rivals, and each time had returned victorious. Sure, Siegfried had gotten a few new scars here and there, and Alo lost a few flight feathers once, but they were still alive and strong. With this status it was no wonder that the queen and her Ice Dame had fallen for the pair.
On the day of their binding ceremony, the day after the Ice Dame clutched, other women cried for they knew now that they had no hope with the king, not that they did to start with.
Their marriage had been four years ago. Now, Sig was questioning his decision to keep that woman as his wife. He had mainly did it due to the fact that she was a strong, yet affectionate woman that the people loved, and the fact that her Dame bore large, healthy clutches. But now, well, he found no interest in that woman anymore. He couldn't just break their bonding though. It wasn't that easy. To break a bonding such as theirs, he had to find a woman that he loved, and that had a bird that could promise a clutch from Alo. That was not easy to come by, that was for sure. One, there were not many Ice birds around at the moment, mostly due to the fact that the last battle had a heavy casualty count, especially on the Female birds. The enemy seemed to have the plan of taking out the "produceres" of the future. Clever, but Sig was really not appreciating it now.
The biggest downfall, though, was the fact that Sig hated most people. He was a king, a warrior, and he acted like such. Wooing really was a challenge for him, and it had been hard enough for him to win his wife, but the advantage to that was that Alo had won the courting of her bird.
Even now, after Alo started to court other birds again, trying to break the bounds to their queen, none of the other females, not even Flyers, were choosing him. Why? Because he was the King sire and they didn't want to test the Queen Dame.
Oh well. Siegfried stretched and patted Alo's blue tinted foot.
"Bound to the devil we will be," He muttered to the large avian. Alo's silver eyes rolled and he nestled down into his "laying" position. His long, silky feathers covered his feet and poured out around his body on the icy ground under him. The blanket of feathers even stretched out to cover the lap of Sig, pouring warmth into his legs.
Don't worry, Siegfried. We will find a way to cope or free ourselves from it. The bird cackled softly and let his eyes drift shut. Sig's green eyes shifted up to look at the bird, and he sighed heavily. Maybe Alo was right.

She hated being queen. This was NOT what she signed up for when Glace chose Alo as her partner. Why the hell did she even agree to marry that stuck up bastard? Oh right, because she wanted what was best for the clan. No. Not anymore. She didn't care if she was the best for the clan, which she probably wasn't, she wasn't going to put up with this king-queen bullshit anymore.
The moment the king left their quarters, she climbed on Glacerin's back and they drifted to the Spring Mountain, which was the mountain that was always green with spring and always warm as the summer that the north never saw. Spring mountain was offlimits to all of the clan, but she and Glace often drifted there for time alone.
Glacerin's white feathers, which were streaked with silver and light blue, glistened and shimmered, making her look like a sculpture of her element, even as she flew.
Don't worry, Maikoda. I am sure all will get better. Just think of that young man that you fancy, Glace's words were slightly teasing as she let an image of the birdless runner-boy flow from her mind and into Maikoda's.
"Serge? Please. He is a runner boy for the bastard-king," She said as she leaned into the warmth of Glace's feathers. They were almost to the mountain, and Maikoda could already imagine the plesant warmth and the soft grass.
I still don't think he is right, anyways. He seems to fancy the king more than any other person, The white bird crooned as she tilted her wings to land.
Maikoda laughed.
"He's probably just overly loyal to the bastard... and doesn't know how horrible he is," she muttered as she braced herself for the jolt of landing.
The jolt came, and she slipped from the bird's warm back and into the spring-green grass. The green was almost blinding to eyes that were so used to snow and ice colors, and it made the brunette girl smile.
Glacerin trilled softly and wandered to the small lake that rested in the middle of the mountain's warm crater. Peace Lake, it was called. They said that Peace Lake had brough peace to the Ice and Wind tribes long ago, which was why they were one clan now. Since then, the Spring Mountain had been off limits, proclaimed as a sacred area that could not be damaged. Since then, rumors of horrible creatures living in the crater spread. Everything from a pack of Sabers, Wolves to heartless rouges that kill maidens as they peer into peace lake. Maikoda and Glacerin didn't believe any of it, but that was just because they hadn't seen any of those things yet. They had ventured to this area for years, ever since Glace's first courting, which marked the starting day of their hell. Three courtings have passed, along with three clutches, and for some reason, no other worthy male has come to court her, leaving her with the demon named Alo. She didn't even care if it wasn't another Ice bird... She didn't need to have a clutch... Oh well.
The white bird lowered herself into the shallows of the lake and fluttered her wings against her body. This lake was just a giant, clean, birdbath for her.
Maikoda smiled as the splashing started and flopped onto a rock to think. Oh, how hellish this was.
