They'd all ended up there for different reasons. This place wasn't exactly heaven, not by a long shit. An insane asylum was not a good place to be, not in any universe. And this one was fairly normal. But the people here, in this asylum, were a special breed of different. They were the people who believed they'd come from another world, people who dreamed at night of a place they'd never been, who could describe it better than the back of their hand. Many of them shared the dreams of their world, and strangely enough, their depictions of Wonderland were quite similar. There were small differences, but the similarities were large enough that those who dreamed of Wonderland were gathered together and sent to their own personal hell.
Frino, the Cheshire Cat, had been one of the first arrivals. He had been more than a little off his rocker before, but things had changed since coming. The pleasantly out there blonde man had changed a lot since his arrival. The experiments that he had been subjected to had changed him, started to traumatize his mind. But he still dreamed of a happy life in wonderland where he had shapeshifted into a twisted tabby cat with emerald green eyes. That was the one place that he had been happy. Oh, Frino remembered the life. That he did. And he remembered this life too, the one where he had been tormented and tortured because of his memories of an other world. This life had landed him here at the ripe old age of eighteen, barely an adult in the eyes of the law.
Now nineteen, Frino had been here for a little over a year. And he had been one of the first arrivals. There were others, of course. Ruby, the Jabberwocky, with red hair that fell to her waist and haunted yellow eyes. She rarely spoke and instead prowled inside her tiny room, snarling at the nurses who came near here. Frino, at least, had swiftly learned to be mostly cooperative, letting the nurses do as they wished. The experiments didn't seem to have helped much, but Frino hoped that soon he would be getting out of this dark place.
The blonde sighed, flopping back on the tiny bed in his room, closing emerald eyes for a long moment. He had fair skin that hadn't seen the light of day in some time, and the garb that every resident of this lovely institution did. The ex-Cheshire Cat snorted irritably, grumbling softly to himself about the sudden change that his life had taken. Oh, one Alice had pissed the Red Queen off and now all of a sudden they were all in this world, being changed and twisted as the scientists forced to make them bow to the rules of this land. Not that they made any sense. Like most of the inhabitants of Wonderland, Frino had had trouble adjusting to this world. Hence how he'd ended up there. Sometimes, he wondered if some of them hadn't managed to escape notice, if they hadn't managed to pull their lives together and pretend they were normal and hope that the curse would break.
But Frino had never put much effort into appearing normal. Normal was boring and boring was unpleasant, after all. So the Cheshire Cat perked up almost immediately at the thought, making a noise that sounded suspiciously like a growl as he wandered up to the door of his room. Daintily, he placed one hand on it, hesitating for a moment before shoving it open and peering into an empty hallway.
And then Frino did what Frinos did best; he vanished. And reappeared moments later outside of the dining hall, wandering inside with a lazy hum as his roving emerald gaze sought out something edible.
